Scarborough Art Gallery, an Italianate villa built in the 1840s as part of The Crescent, houses Scarborough's fine art collection. Paintings feature seascapes and views of Scarborough including works by Atkinson Grimshaw, H.B.Carter, Frank Mason and Ernest Dade. The Gallery also displays works by Lord Leighton, Ivon Hitchens, Matthew Smith, Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious. The Gallery has a lively temporary exhibition programme that features contemporary work by professional artists. Their programme also includes talks and holiday activities for families.

Peasholm Park

Peasholme Park is 100 years old this year (2011) and remains one of Englands best municipal parks. Set around a large lake it has a Japanese theme and a pagoda stands high on the hill in the middle of the lake. Set back from North Bay, Scarborough's beautiful Edwardian pleasure gardens are famous for their summer sessions of Naval Warfare , when large model ships re-enact famous naval battles on the boating lake (check the website for dates). There is a cafe and plenty of seating , and a variety of boats can be hired on the lake. In the evenings the park is illuminated and provides a wonderful night-time walk.
